Interested in improving your remote area first aid skills?  There are a few places left in the ACTRA sponsored course. 

At each of our events, ACTRA endeavours to have a qualified first aid officer on the admin team.  We rarely have any serious injuries or incidents, however training in remote first aid provides excellent knowledge and skills to have in the field if there is a medical emergency.

ACTRA is hosting a remote area first aid course on 30-31 May 2026 (8.30am to 4.30pm each day).  The trainer is Margot Hurrell who has extensive outdoor experience and teaching in remote first aid.  The course will be held at the Ainslie Guide Hall and surrounds.

The deal is that anyone who attends should volunteer to be the first aid officer at events as 'repayment' for the course paid by ACTRA . We are suggesting 1-2 events over the next 2 years.

Participants all get the national accreditation Statement of Attainment for the following units:  

HLTAID009 (Provide CPR); HLTAID011 (Provide First Aid); and HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in a Remote or isolated area.

In Australia it is recommended that CPR is recertified every 12 months.  The other certificates are valid for 3 years.  There will be 2 hours of on-line information to be completed before the course starts.  The course is being held under the auspices of the 5-Star Training Group (https://www.5startraining.com.au/web-courses).

Congratulations to overall winners Oscar Woolford and Nicholas Brennan, who cleared the course with over 40mins spare! Tristan White and Ivan Koudashev were second with 2,260 and Elizabeth Reid and Stewart Hancock third with 2,100. Well done to the family category winners Craig Mottershead and Archer Mottershead with an impressive score of 1600 points!

The Champs was a great success.  The strong southerly winds on Friday and Saturday provided a chilly start to the event but it finished on a beautiful Autumn day.  Check out the results below.

In the 24 hour event, Julie and David B won overall with 3,970 points, Ronnie and David were second overall and Shelley and Elizabeth were only 13 seconds behind to make third overall. Very impressive !!  

The 8 hour event was won by Zac, Tom and Ethan with an great score of 1,540.  

A huge thank you to all the volunteers at the event: Ron, Glenn, Jon and Keith mostly at the HH, Kelvin who was pleased no one had serious injuries, and the ANC crew - Bella, Harry, Peggy and Jeannie, who also enjoyed the night action.  Also thanks for the control collectors having fun without the need to rush and to the Hartley Life Care volunteers who help raise funds for the organisation.
